Introduction

Welcome to the SIR2002 on-line documentation. This documentation is a set of linked hypertext files and there are various ways to navigate around these. If you need information about a particular command or option and you know the name of the command or option, you might start with the A-Z Index. This is an alphabetic index to all topics in all subjects. Alternatively, you might want information about a major subject such as SQL or VisualPQL. Each major subject starts with a table of contents which cross references to more detailed topics. Each major subject also has an individual alphabetic index. Major subjects are as follows:

Overview which provides an overview and general introduction.

Environment which describes how to operate within SIR in a general way including how to set parameters when starting the system, how to modify scripts and generally how to create and store various procedures and programs. It also covers how to use the screen painters to design dialogs and PQLForms.

Database which describes how to create and manage databases, whether these are small personal databases, or complex systems administered for multiple users.

VisualPQL which describes how to develop applications using the major SIR application development language, VisualPQL. It also covers how to develop graphical user interfaces using dialogs and data entry screens using PQLForms.

PQL Procedure which describes how to use the reporting and statistical procedures available within VisualPQL.

SQL which describes how to use SIR's implementation of SQL (Structured Query Language).

FORMS which describes how to create and use older text style data entry screens.
